Scott

Disability:

Scott Winkler was serving with the U.S. military in Tikrit, Iraq when an accident while unloading a munitions truck left him paralyzed below the waist.

Ability:

His motto is “if you believe it, you can achieve it”, and since being paralyzed in Iraq, Scott is doing just that.

"I fought for my country. Now I win for it." said Scott, "It's a great honor." Scott was invited to compete with the U.S. Paralympics Elite team, has set U.S. and world records in adaptive shot-put. He holds the American record in the shot and discus and qualified for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Scott founded Champions Made from Adversity (CMA) with a few fellow soldiers and friends. “I finally found my reason for being disabled," he says.

Our "Project VisAbility Inspirations" reflect the attitude, ability and strength it takes to succeed despite some of life's most intense challenges. By sharing these stories of achievement, we hope you will be as touched and motivated by them as we are… perhaps to join and support our program, and hopefully in some way that will change the perceptions about "disabilities", helping us to raise the VisAbility.
